Leftovers' January release has brought me some really thoughtful and thought-provoking reader email. I've very much enjoyed reading all the differences in perspective, individual opinions, questions, motivation and translation, as that's pretty much what the book explores.
How, for better or worse, we can never really be sure that what we say or do is interpreted the way we intended it to be because everyone who receives it filters it through their own experiences, likes, dislikes, preferences, joys, sorrows, opinions, etc. and then applies it or disregards it as they choose. How every single one of us on this planet comes at life from a completely different place, both internally and externally, blood-relative, stranger or casual acquaintance. The interesting part, of course, is that it means we don't really know anyone else at all.
This idea fascinates the hell out of me.
